I worked hard with Gayan Kumara to complete creating the reports in iReports.

Hettiarachchi P.S. started designing the rest of the graphics.

Ramanayake A.R.D.N.D. worked to complete the validation of the project.

Friday 10th of October 2008

I did some codings in the project.

Oshadi P.A.U. worked on the documentation and Hettiarachchi P.S. designed the interfaces.

Ramanayake A.R.D.N.D. did some validation but yet it is not finished.

Thursday 09th October 2008

I asked the members to do the ir assigned work and I was doing some coding whole day till the mornin (3 a.m.) of 10th of October.

Oshadi P.A.U. started working on documentation.

Hettiarachchi P.S. designed the form of the reports.

Gayan Kumara wrote SQL queries.

Ramanayake A.R.D.N.D. started the form validation.

Wednesday 08th of October 2008

Met the group members again and asked them to participate for the project work till 15th of October.

Also I assigned Ileperuma H.A. to write the user manual of the system and made the deadline to submit it on 10th of October 2008.

I started creating the database in MySQL and there were some errors in creating it.

I assigned Maliga V.V.N. to design a logo for our software product. And the deadline is set to 10th of October.

Due to the absense of the project members, i decided to give a study brea to the members.

The next session of project work will start on 08th of October 2008 due to the final exam of the 2nd Year, 2nd Semester.

Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. showed me some of the changes he made, but they still remains with the non-professional looking. I delivered the Adobe Flex software and asked him to use it in designing.

I referred to some JSP tutorials and did some codings.

Tomorrow whole day is set to do the project work at SLIIT.

We three connected Jasper reports to the database and generated sample outputs from it.

Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. was changing some interfaces at home.

I reffered some tutorials in Adobe Flex and downloaded the setup to be delivered to interface designing team. It may help them to design the interface in a professional manner.

The idea of the lecturers about the presentation:

The supervisor and Lecturer-In-charge said that the overall presentation was good.
But they advised Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. to make the interfaces more professional and user friendly.
Also advised Gayan Kumara to keep the eye contact with the audience while presenting.

I held a meeting with the group members and discussed about the future system development.

I decided to give a break to project work on Tuesday 2nd September 2008. We will start the proect work again on 3rd September 2008.

Oshadi P.A.U., Hettiarachchi P.S. and Gayan Kumara were preparing for the presentation.

Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. was failed to change the interfaces as I wanted so I changed the most of the interfaces with him and instructed him whole day without doing anyting.

Finally I was able to design with him the interfaces which we should include in the presentation upto some extent. But they all should be re-designed because they do not seem to be user friendly.

Also I written the summary which Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. should present at the presentation.

I edited the whole presentation and included the parts which Oshadi P.A.U., Hettiarachchi P.S. and Gayan Kumara were preparing. And completed the presentation by 2.15am.

Also I prepared myself for presenting the introduction of the presentation. I e-mailed the final presentation to all the members.

Only Oshadi P.A.U., Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. and Katangodage B.T.(I) participated for the meeting.

Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. went home early due to his sickness and I checked and corrected the presentation which Oshadi P.A.U. prepared to present by herself.

I advised to Ileperuma H.A. to submit the completed presentation at night.

Also I advised Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. to change the appearance of the interfaces which he had showed me to make them look like professional.

Friday 29th of August 2008

Location: SLIIT

The deadline for submitting the user interfaces is today. The interface designing team took nearly 2 months to produce an interface for our project.
 
Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. showed the designs he designed. Though it is not upto the standards which i expected, the home page was fairly ok upto some extent. But all the designs need to be more professional and user friendly than this.
 
So, Katangodage B.T.(I) advised him to change the button styles and the background of the pages. Also I advised him to make all the forms into the size of one screen so, it'll be easy to be fill them up.

But the designing team could not do any changes today.

I checked the database queries which Gayan Kumara has written.

The presentation was submitted to me today by Ileperuma H.A. though the deadline was on yesterday. It needs to be changed a lot before it becomes as the final prototype presentation.

The next meeting is scheduled on 30th August at 2.30pm at SLIIT to check each member's part of the presentation.

Today I planned to do project work whole day and finish preparing the presentation.

Dilshan M.P.K. started writing codes for user login from home also he edited the database and worked hard to finish the login page today itself. But he was unable to do finish it.

Gayan Kumara and Padmasiri A.D.R.wrote the queries of the database.

Maliga V.V.N. and Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. kept designing the home page and they also went to 8th floor of the SLIIT to meet a supervisor who does NetBeans. But they could not meet any person who can answer the issues we encountered when we were developing the system.

Oshadi P.A.U., Ileperuma H.A., Hettiarachchi P.S., Muthugala M.K.N.D. was preparing the prototype presentation.

Katangodage B.T.(I) did some coding of the home page and instructed all the members on their project work.

Ileperuma H.A. the in-charge of the presentation preparing did not able to submit me the finished powerpoint presentation today thougj the deadline is today to finish the presentation preparing task.

Today we had individaul evaluation. Our supervisor checked the Group log book and ask about each one's contribution on the project and their role in the project.We showed him and asked about his opinion about the presentation topic list. He said that the organisation of the topics is ok. He advised to bring the working prototype also when we come to the presentation.

The following members started writing the presentation topics and descriptions.

Ileperuma H.A. started designing the background of the presentation.

Oshadi P.A.U. sent me the Use cases which she drew through e-mail to check them. I checked them and instructed to change where necessary and also I updated the blog. Oshadi P.A.U. is the one who writes the log book everyday after I post the log description in the blog.

Today following members did not attend for the meeting.

Katangodage B.T. (I) and Oshadi P.A.U. made the structure of the prototype presentation and the topics which we should include in the presentation. After that I handed over the structure we designed to Ileperuma H.A. to do any necessary changes and modify it to create the presentation with Oshadi P.A.U.and Muthugala M.K.N.D.

The deadline was made for the presentation designing submission on 28th of August 2008.

The progress of the Interface designing team still remains the same. Today also I told Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. another way of inserting flash into the NetBeans and try out.

So the deadline for submitting the user interfaces (which are to be included in the prototype presentation) is set on 29th of August 2008.

Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. and Maliga V.V.N. went to meet Mr. Asitha to get some help to add the flash to the website in NetBeans. Also after about 30 minutes again Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. and Katangodage B.T. (I) went to meet him. Both the time he was not there at the seat. Also we two met Dr. Marikar to ask about what we should include in the presentation. He told us that he's not expecting the working prototype of the system and only a presentation of work which we did upto now should be done.

After that again I met Dr. Marikar to ask about the SRS which we shave to send the company. He told me that it will be handed over to us with a letter to be sent to the company by the mid of next week.

Katangodage B.T. (I) instructed Muthugala M.K.N.D. to write the content under the topics of the presentation.

Gayan Kumara and Padmasiri A.D.R. both waorked together to finish designing tables of the database.

Ileperuma H.A. and Muthugala M.K.N.D. started working on the prototype presentaion. Ramanayake A.R.D.N.D. will not be able to do the prototype presenatation due to his sickness. So, I have to assign someone else for the prototype presenation on behalf of him.

Monday 25th of August 2008

The meeting was held among the members today evening.

Katangodage B.T.(I) discussed with the members about the future project work. I assigned Ileperuma H.A. as the In-Charge of the prototype presentation and asked him to handle everything related to the prototype.I  instructed him how to make the presentation.

I instructed Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. to add effects to the buttons of the interface and told how the structure of the home page should be and submit the interfaces on Friday 29th of August 2008. 
 
I selected the members who should do the mid term presentation according to their abilities, responsibility and specially by considering their personal matters.

The members who I selected for the group members are,

  • Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. - Member of Interface Designing Team and he requested to present at the mid term because he's having an operation soon.
  • Oshadi P.A.U.      - Member of the requirements analysing team and overall UML diagram designing. Also she requested to present at the prototype presentation and I thought of reducing her work load at the final exam by assigning her to present at the prototype since she worked hard from the begining to make this project a success.
  • Gayan Kumara       - Member of database designing. Also he requested to present in the prototype presentation.
  • Katangodage B.T.   - member of the Coding team and also I may have some examinations in the university by that time.
  • Ramanayake A.R.D.N.D. - Ramanayake A.R.D.N.D. is sick so he may not be able to do the final presentation.
                      
Also the work plan for this week and the assignment personnel for work are planned by me. The work plan is as follows.
 
  1. Create database tables and write DDL.
  2. Finish designing user interfaces.
  3. Install MySQL and connect it to NetBeans and iReport.
  4. Start Coding.
  5. Create the presentation.
  6. Start writing the user manual and documentation.
  7. Write SQL statements.

I instructed Ileperuma H.A. how to create the prototype presentation, and assigned him to handle all the activities of the prototype presentation.

I instructed Oshadi P.A.U. and Ariyadasa H.M.L.L what to do today because I had to attend to the University of Sabaragamuwa for a registration. Oshadi P.A.U. has given the messages which I have told her to tell the members. But the group members had not gathered today. I updated the blog at night.

I e-mailed the soft copy of our SRS to our supervisor Mr. Azmeer, and also searched on the internet for iReport- MySQL connector. But I could not find any seperate installation file for that.

Wednesday 20th of August 2008

All the members participated for the project work except for Gayan Kumara. He informed me about his absence.

Oshadi P.A.U., Padmasiri A.D.R. submitted the final class diagram and the corrected activity diagrams.

Hettiarachchi P.S. and Maliga V.V.N. started to complete the forms which Hettiarachchi P.S. has designed. Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. showed me the home page which he has designed. But i did not accepted it because it did not have an attractive looking. So, he started designing a new home page under my instructions. But he left the place before he finish designing it and the login page.

So we were unable to add the home page and the login screen due to his delay. Hettiarachchi P.S. was able to submit the user forms only. So, I had to submit SRS without the Home page and login screen.

Ileperuma H.A. submitted the description which he wrote under the topic, Project documentation. I checked it and added to the SRS.

I finalised the SRS as soon as I can, and brought it to the Supervisor Mr. Azmeer. He checked it and pointed following mistakes and also he asked to update some descriptions with the following.

Updates
1. Asked us to add XML/CVS reports which can export reports to Micropsoft Excel sheets, under software interfaces.

2. Edit the hardware requirements as the minimum hardware requirments for the system.

I asked about the marks of our Project Proposal from the supervisor. He told that we had got 70% for the project proposal.

It seems we have to work hard to get good marks for the rest of the work. After that we came back and I edited the mistakes and also i upated the relevant topics with the information our supervisor provided.

went to show the edited the SRS and get signed it from the supervisor. But he refused to sign because our delay of working. But after we four requested to sign it by forgiving us, he agreed to check n sign.

So, he signed it and we took printouts as soon as we signed it. Also the supervisor asked me to e-mail the SRS to him at night. After that we (Katangodage B.T., Dilshan M.P.K. and Maliga V.V.N. got printouts and submitted both the printouts to the 8th floor of Malabe Campus.

I was so angry with the Interface design team because, they could have created. Though one and half months passed, the interface design team failed to submit any interface design which suits our project topic.

Tuesday 19th of August 2008

The following members was absent though it is one more day to submit the SRS.

Muthugala M.K.N.D. is the member who did the least contribution for the project work among the group members while some others done something upto some extent.

I handed over all the drawn activity diagrams which are related to our system and asked the members who drew UML diagrams to compare the already drawn UML diagrams with the diagrams which i gave them. I asked them to come up with the perfect activity diagrams by redrawing where it is necessary.

So the folowing members started re-drawing the final activity diagrams and the class diagram.

The in-charge of designing interfaces Ariyadasa H.M.L.L., participated for the group work and started to design the home page. But he could not come up with a good design and left the SLIIT early.

Maliga V.V.N. wrote the description of the SRS topic, Identifiers under my inspection.

I (Katangodage B.T.) instructed the UML diagram design team and checked their work and also instructed Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. how the interfaces should look like and the attributes of them.

Until the evening, I could not get the final UML diagrams. So I asked Oshadi P.A.U. to send me them at night through e-mail.

I checked all the descriptions of the topics again in the night, which the members have written and submitted me to publish in the SRS. While I was checking the them, Oshadi P.A.U.sent me the activity diagrams one by one, and the class diagram.

I checked them all and wrote the mistakes and errors which should be corrected by 20th of August and I sent them to Oshadi P.A.U. to be corrected tomorrow before I come to SLIIT.

Hettiarachchi P.S. sent me some descriptions of the interface designs. I corrected the mistakes in each and every description of the SRS, re-wrote some descriptions, edited the descriptions and aligned the Text. I finished everything in the SRS other than Project documentation and User Interfaces.

It took me the whole night to re-check the SRS.

Monday 18th of August 2008

The group members started working on the SRS.

Hettiarachchi P.S. started designing interfaces of the software package, under the guidance of me. Maliga V.V.N. helped her.
She had to do it alone on behalf of the members who designs the Interface, since Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. who is in-charge of designing did not paid any attention to it.

Gayan Kumara, Ileperuma H.A., Padmasiri A.D.R., Oshadi P.A.U. started redrawing the use cases and writing use case scenarios because they found some errors in the scenarios while they were trying to draw the class diagram.

Katangodage B.T.(I) corrected the mistakes in the Use case scenarios and helped all of them to finish their tasks. Also I edited the SRS and instructed Gayan Kumara, how to identify the methods of the class diagram.

I contacted the Chief Software Engineer of the company to check whether they are satisfied with the functional requirements which we have sent. But he told that he is in a meeting and he told me that he will call me back when he checked them.

Today following members met at the SLIIT.

Hettiarachchi P.S. designed some user interfaces, and Gayan Kumara helped her.

Katangodage B.T.(I) instructed them by showing them the areas which should be changed.

Ramanayake A.R.D.N.D. downloaded some video tutorials about NetBeans 6.1

Katangodage B.T.(I) edited the the SRS and searched the internet for some tutorials about JavaServer Faces and downloaded some of them. Also I downloaded some background images for our user interfaces. I found a new software which can be used to create and edit flash animations easily. I installed NetBeans 6.5 Beta version in the laptops.

Saturday 16th of August 2008

We decided to work individually at our homes since today is a poya day. The next meeting is scheduled on Sunday 17th of August 2008 at SLIIT.

Hettiarachchi P.S. contacted me and got instruction on NetBeans projects building, and she told me that she wll be able to show the rest of the interfaces which she designed, in the next meeting on sunday.

I contacted the Chief Software Engineer of the company and informed about the e-mail which i sent him yesterday including the functions of the system.

I edited the SRS and updated the blog.

Gayan Kumara finished drawing the class diagram.

Dilshan M.P.K. and Katangodage B.T.(I) finished writing the functional requirements and the sketching of new user interfaces which we came across when writing the Functional requirements.

Katangodage B.T.(I) e-mailed the functional requirements to the IT Manager and Chief Software Engineer of the Company, and also instructed each member on their work and corrected the mistakes.

Oshadi P.A.U. edited the Gantt Chart by re-assigning dates on the remaining sub systems which we should develop, and also helped in writing the use case scenarios and drawing activity diagrams.

Padmasiri A.D.R.,Ileperuma H.A.and Gayan Kumara drew the activity diagrams for the new use case scenarios which they wrote.

Hettiarachchi P.S. started designing the user interfaces for each function we have.

Ramanayake A.R.D.N.D. wrote the description under the topic Assumptions and Dependencies of the SRS.

Oshadi P.A.U., Hettiarachchi P.S., Padmasiri A.D.R. met the Software Engineering-II Lecturer-In-Charge Mr.Nuwan Kodagoda, to get some advices on publishing the activity diagrams which we drew for the SRS. He adviced them to publish the main activity diagrams, if we have have large number of activity diagrams in the system.

The following members did not attend today.

Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. promised me yesterday to bring the interface designs to start coding and to publish on the SRS. But, neither he submitted them to me as he promised, nor attended to the project work.

Some of the members are unhappy with the blog which I am maintaining since I am publishing all individual and group work in the blog.

The Chief Software Engineer and The Accountant of the company and the following members of our group participated for the meeting.

We explained them about the functions of the member registration sub system and we clarified the selling information of the Till sub system and the Member Attendance report. Also we explained them that the report generation using Crystal Reports cannot be done with Java because Cryatal Report does not compatible with Java and also it is not a Free Software.

I suggested them an alternative Free and Open Source Report Generating software, Jasper Report.

Also we promised them to e-mail functionality of each process before Saturday 16th of August 2008.

The Decisions made at the meeting:

Use Jasper Report (a Free and Open Source software for Report Generating) instead of using Crystal Report.

After the study break, I contacted IT manager and the Chief Software Engineer of the company.

Made an appointment to have a meeting with them on 13th of August 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Nugegoda branch, to inform them about the progress of the project.

The ITP Lecturer-In-Charge Mr. Marikar contacted me to inform about the person who can help us with the development of the project. He asked us to meet the Java lecturer Mr. Asitha Perera of SLIIT if we need any help in developing the software.
I decided to have a break from the project work until we finish the mid term because I want the members to do the project work as well as other studies well. 
I held a meeting and following members attended the meeting. Others did not participate though they were informed about it.

I, Dilshan M.P.K. and Maliga V.V.N. met Java Lecturer Mr. Asitha Perera, and asked about the J2EE components which we should download. He advised to download the NetBeans IDE, which contains everything in J2EE, which I had already downloaded.

We met the ITP Lecturer-In-Charge Mr. Marikar and asked about any Java professionals who we can take help to connect Jasper Reports to our system. He told me that he will inform me as soon as he got someone who knows J2EE. Also he checked the blog.

I installed the NetBeans 6.5M1 in the laptops and taught the others how to design the web applications in NetBeans. Also I demontrated the members how to design and code the system using NetBeans 6.5M1 IDE. I edited the topics which I have got from Ileperuma H.A. at night. I updated the blog and done codings.

I referred to some JavaServer™ Faces coding examples on the internet and done sample designing pages for our system.

Also I updated the blog and Downloaded NetBeans 6.5M1 IDE from the http://bits.netbeans.org website.

Hettiarachchi P.S. sent me a sample User Home page which she has designed. I advised to change some areas of it.

I helped the members from time to time and checked their work.
I contacted Mr. Dinesh, the Pragram manager of the company, and asked about the Scholarship process that we have to handle. He said that it is connected with the Insurance sub system. Due to the decision which was taken by the officials of the company, at the meeting which was held with us on 29th of July 2008, to remove the Insurance sub system from the system; he also asked to remove the Scholarship process also from the system.

Decisions made with the Program Manager:
To remove the Scholarship process from the Member Registration sub system.

We re-drew the Use Case diagram and the Use Case Scenarios by removing the Scholarship Process from it and showed the use case diagram to the Software Enginering Lecturer-In-Charge Mr. Nuwan Kodagoda. He said that the Use case Diagram does not need any modifications.

Tuesday 29nd of July 2008

The members who i assigned; met the officials of the company and cheched their current login system. But the officials have showed them a prototype of the system, not the actual system.

The Chief Engineer has asked them not to develop the Insurance sub system also, because it directly connects with the Account Management system which was removed from our system earlier.

Decisions made at the meeting:
Develop the following sub systems in the the web based Customer Account Management System (CAMS) which we develop for them.
Member Registration sub system
Till Management sub system

I met the DBMS lecturer Mr. Prasanna and got some instructions to connect MySQL server using Java.

I instructed Hettiarachchi P.S. how to add overlay to buttons of the user interface and corrected the purpose of the SRS which was submitted by Oshadi P.A.U. Also I assigned Ileperuma H.A. to write the descriptions of Identifier and Priority of the SRS.

Use Case scenarios were submitted to me by the following members to correct the mistakes.

I edited most of the scenarios and advised the members to write them again clearly.

I listed the major tasks which should be done tomorrow and the day after tomorrow and updated the blog.

I checked the user Interface which was designed by Ariyadasa H.M.L.L. and instructed him to do some of the changes.

I searched on the Internet for information on "how to connect Crystal Reports with Java". There were not sufficient details on that, but there were some information on Jasper reports and Java technology.

Wednesday 16th of July 2008

I did not attend the meeting due to a private reason. I informed about my absence to the IT Manager. The group members have studied the VPN system. Also they have talked with the officials and finally they have agreed to remove th Account Management System from our System.
The Company provided us with the inputs, outputs and reports which should be generated in some functions.

Maliga V.V.N. , Dilshan M.P.K. and I met Mr. Anuradha, and discussed how to connect the computers to a VPN system. We three discussed and decided to validate the user computers, which are connecting to the software, using its MAC address.

We met Mr. Azmeer and informed the decision of the Deputy Chairman and the staff which they took,which is to remove the Account Management system from our Software.

Mr. Azmeer asked us to continue the work on SRS.

Tuesday 15th of July 2008

I held a meeting with the group members at 11.30 a.m. and decided to ask them to ask them about their prevailing VPN system. Dilshan M.P.K. submitted the work plan which he made for the members to work on the SRS.

I allowed Dilshan M.P.K. to assign members according to the work plan which he made.I was assigned to check the overall completeness of the SRS individually and the System Features with Dilshan M.P.K.

I contacted the IT Manager of the company and got permission to study their VPN system on the following day after finishing the meeting with them.

Monday 14th of July 2008

The following members met the supervisor Mr. Azmeer in the mornin and showed the soft copy of the project proposal to him.

Our supervisor instructed us to discuss with the company to reduce the Account management sub system from the system, because the scope of the project will be huge for our level.

All the group members except for Muthugala M.K.N.D. and Ramanayake A.R.D.N.D. met the supervisor and submitted the printed proposal in the evening and made an appointment to meet him again on Wednesday 16th of July at 4.30 p.m. , to inform the decision which will be taken regarding the issue on the Account Management system.

We handed over a copy of the project proposal to the previous supervisor Ms. Fernando, due to the request of the ITP Lecturer-In-Charge, Mr. Marikar.

I held a meeting to the members and delivered the soft copy of the SRS which i got from our supervisor and assigned Dilshan M.P.K. to divide the topics among the members to start writting the content.

I asked Hettiarachchi P.S. to contact the deputy Chairman Mr. Rathnayake and explain him the issue on the Account Management System. I contacted The IT Manager of the Company and got an appointment to meet them on 16th of July at 9 a.m. at the Nugegoda Branch, and I explained him the issue on Account Management system clearly.

Hettiarachchi P.S. informed me the decision of the Deputy Chairman. He has given the permission to remove the Account Management System from the Software which we develop.

E-mailed the soft copy of the Project Proposal to the supervisor Mr. Azmeer.
Informed the other members about the meeting which will be held with the supervisor on 14th of July 2008.

We prepared the work plan which should be sent to the company. and I guided the members to write the project proposal.

Tuesday 08th of July 2008

Nine Group Members except for Dilshan M.P.K. and Padmasiri A.D.R. , met at the Nugegoda branch at 7.30 a.m. and went on the site visit with the officials to Bandaragama Branch. Dilshan M.P.K was sick and Padmasiri A.D.R. participated in the ITP work shop which was held at SLIIT.
Ramanayake A.R.D.N.D. , Ileperuma H.A. and I studied their Accounting system and we all participated for a meeting which was held with the customers of the company.
We had a meeting with the branch office staff and discussed about the daily report updating procedure. They showed the current software of the branch which they use to update the customer details.
We participated in a meeting which was held by the children of the customers of the company. We have to develop the system to store and handle those childrens' details.

I delivered a speech there, as the Group Leader, on behalf of our group and SLIIT.

It was over at 5.30 p.m. and we came back to SLIIT.


Monday 7th of July 2008

All the members except for Dilshan M.P.K. went to the meeting with officials of the Company. The meeting was held in Nugegoda branch. The IT manager, Chief Software Engineer, The Accountant and The Program Manager of the Company participated for the meeting.
They provided us with their requirements briefly and asked us to go on a site visit in Bandaragama Branch with them on 8th july 2008. We agreed to go there and the meeting time was scheduled at 7.30 a.m on the following day.
I handed over the edited Project Charter and Project Registration form to the Lecturer-In-Charge, Mr. Marikar.

Thursday 3rd July 2008

I held a meeting for the members at 10.30 a.m. and gave a brief description about the project we were assigned by the company.

I prepared the project charter and the Project Registration form and printed it. handed it Over to the Lecturer-In-Charge, Dr. Marikar and we couldn't signed it from our Supervisor, Ms. fernando due to her absence. Dr. Marikar said that he assigned Mr. Azmeer as our new Supervisor.

All the members visited the Company Head Office at 3.00 p.m. The meeting was held with the participation of Deputy Chairman, Mr. Rathnayake; IT Manager, Mr. Hettiarachchi; Chief Software Engineer, Mr. Achalanka and The Program Manager of the Company.

They explained about the project and operations vividly. We were asked to develop a web based system which can be operated using IP-VPN technology to automate their existing manual system of the program.

Next meeting will be scheduled in Nugegoda Branch on 7th July 2008 with the officials of the company.

A new time table was created by Oshadi P.A.U. for project work.

Wednesday 2nd of July 2008

I and Hettiarachchi P.S. went to NSB bank, Battaramulla and met the manager and asked about a project from them. The Manager asked meet their Head Office Project Manager and ask from him for the project.

Hettiarachchi P.S. , Dilshan M.P.K. and I went to Expographic Bookshop, Pelawatta and met The Manager there. He asked us to develop a database of their customers and he promised to e-mail their requirements in the evening to Hettiarachchi P.S.

Hettiarachchi P.S. , Dilshan M.P.K. , Oshadi P.A.U. and I went to meet Mr. Rathnayake, the Deputy Chairman of the company, at 2 p.m. to their Head Office in Kirulapone.

We were asked to develop a web based system for their newly launched program of the company.

Introduction of the project

The management of the company has established a program, which is conducted for the welfare of the children of the women who have registered under the company. This program consists of various kinds of activities which will guide the children to the success of their lives. Various competitions, career guidance workshops, leadership training programs and computer training programs are held monthly, for the children, over 900 centers around the country.

Over 37000 children had been registered to these Childrens' societies and the company provides them with Insurance policies, scholarships for who have passed well at the Grade-V Scholarship Examination and for who have selected for government universities at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination.

Also the children are given a Till on their request to save money. The progress of the savings will be checked monthly by a co-ordinator of the company and the details will be recorded in their branch office where the childrens' society registered.

We made an appointment to meet the Deputy Chairman again on 3rd July 2008 at 3.00 p.m. and left the office.

I met the Lecturer-In-Charge, Dr. Marikar to talk about the issue on the absence of the supervisor Ms. Fernando. He told me that he will assign a new supervisor to our group.

I searched on the internet for Java and JSP tutorials in the evening.
Hettiarachchi P.S. did not get any e-mails from the Expographics Book Shop, though they told us that they will send their requirements.

Tuesday 1st of July 2008

Tosay we had a meeting at 11.30am. During the meeting Hettiarachchi P.S. came up with the idea to meet Mr. Rathnayake, a Deputy Chairman of xxxxxxxxxxxxxx company. Her father helped us to make an appointment with Mr. Rathnayake. The meeting will be held on 2nd July 2008.

Others came up with ideas to keep back up projects as well, so we decided to attend some companies on 2nd July 2008, to pick some projects they have.

I also suggested following topics as Research Projects.
  1. Online DVD Rental System with an SMS Gateway to send reminders to customers.
  2. Pizza ordering system via SMS.
  3. A software for PDA.
The group members selected online DVD Rental System to keep as a back up project for us.

I met the group members at 10.30am. We talked about the systems which we can create our own, such as Developing a system for a bookshop, Developing a DVD online rental system for a DVD store.
Our next meeting was scheduled on 1st of July 2008.

Today also i didn't go to SLIIT due to my studies because exam is on 28th, 29th June and 05th July. Group members have met @ SLIIT and they have agreed to appoint me as the group leader though i didn't know them. The only person who i knew among them was Prathiba. I haven't talked with others before. And our supervisor is Ms. Nimalika Fernando.

Our group was published on the SLIIT 4th floor Notice Board. But i was absent due to the studies of Dharmacharya Exam.
