Sunday 6th of July 2008

I distributed the copies of following software which we should use while designing and implementing the system.

MySQL 5.0
JDK 6 update 10
Mozilla Firefox 3.0
Notepad++
NetBeans 6.1
Adobe Dreamweaver CS3
Adobe FlashCS3
Adobe Photoshop CS3

Also I prepared the Project Charter and Project Registration Form again by renaming the Project topic as CUSTOMER ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (CAMS).

This was selected as the topic, because the system should handle most of the functions and data through the registered customers account.

I met Oshadi and gayan at SLIIT and prepared a work plan with milestones, which should be sent to the company.

Friday 4th of July 2008

As the leader of the group i assigned tasks to each member of the group related to the project.
The group was categorized according to the major areas which we should develop the system.

1. Database Management Team

I appointed Section-In-Charges to each team. Each S.I.C. should take the responsibility of each section.
The Teams were selected according to their skills and abilities.
Our System contains 4 sub systems named:

a) Insurance Management sub-system
This sub system is responsible for managing all the functions related to Insurance management.The Following members are assigned to study the functions of this sub system.

b) Member Registration sub-system
This sub system is responsible for managing all the functions related to Member Registration of the system.The Following members are assigned to study the functions of this sub system.

c) Till Project Management sub-system
This sub system is responsible for managing all the functions related to Till project management. The Following members are assigned to study the functions of this sub system.

This sub system is responsible for managing all the functions related to Account management. The Following members are assigned to study the functions of the sub system.

These members are selected from each team which i assigned them earlier; so it will be easy to analyse the system as the team consists of the members from database, front end designing and coding teams.

Thursday 3rd July 2008

I held a meeting for the members at 10.30 a.m. and gave a brief description about the project we were assigned by the company.

I prepared the project charter and the Project Registration form and printed it. handed it Over to the Lecturer-In-Charge, Dr. Marikar and we couldn't signed it from our Supervisor, Ms. fernando due to her absence. Dr. Marikar said that he assigned Mr. Azmeer as our new Supervisor.

All the members visited the Company Head Office at 3.00 p.m. The meeting was held with the participation of Deputy Chairman, Mr. Rathnayake; IT Manager, Mr. Hettiarachchi; Chief Software Engineer, Mr. Achalanka and The Program Manager of the Company.

They explained about the project and operations vividly. We were asked to develop a web based system which can be operated using IP-VPN technology to automate their existing manual system of the program.

Next meeting will be scheduled in Nugegoda Branch on 7th July 2008 with the officials of the company.

A new time table was created by Oshadi P.A.U. for project work.

Wednesday 2nd of July 2008

I and Hettiarachchi P.S. went to NSB bank, Battaramulla and met the manager and asked about a project from them. The Manager asked meet their Head Office Project Manager and ask from him for the project.

Hettiarachchi P.S. , Dilshan M.P.K. and I went to Expographic Bookshop, Pelawatta and met The Manager there. He asked us to develop a database of their customers and he promised to e-mail their requirements in the evening to Hettiarachchi P.S.

Hettiarachchi P.S. , Dilshan M.P.K. , Oshadi P.A.U. and I went to meet Mr. Rathnayake, the Deputy Chairman of the company, at 2 p.m. to their Head Office in Kirulapone.

We were asked to develop a web based system for their newly launched program of the company.

We were asked to use,
  • Java as the programing language
  • MySQL for Database
  • Crystal Report for Report Generating.
Introduction of the project

The management of the company has established a program, which is conducted for the welfare of the children of the women who have registered under the company. This program consists of various kinds of activities which will guide the children to the success of their lives. Various competitions, career guidance workshops, leadership training programs and computer training programs are held monthly, for the children, over 900 centers around the country.

Over 37000 children had been registered to these Childrens' societies and the company provides them with Insurance policies, scholarships for who have passed well at the Grade-V Scholarship Examination and for who have selected for government universities at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination.

Also the children are given a Till on their request to save money. The progress of the savings will be checked monthly by a co-ordinator of the company and the details will be recorded in their branch office where the childrens' society registered.

We made an appointment to meet the Deputy Chairman again on 3rd July 2008 at 3.00 p.m. and left the office.

I met the Lecturer-In-Charge, Dr. Marikar to talk about the issue on the absence of the supervisor Ms. Fernando. He told me that he will assign a new supervisor to our group.

I searched on the internet for Java and JSP tutorials in the evening.
Hettiarachchi P.S. did not get any e-mails from the Expographics Book Shop, though they told us that they will send their requirements.

Tuesday 1st of July 2008

Tosay we had a meeting at 11.30am. During the meeting Hettiarachchi P.S. came up with the idea to meet Mr. Rathnayake, a Deputy Chairman of xxxxxxxxxxxxxx company. Her father helped us to make an appointment with Mr. Rathnayake. The meeting will be held on 2nd July 2008.

Others came up with ideas to keep back up projects as well, so we decided to attend some companies on 2nd July 2008, to pick some projects they have.

I also suggested following topics as Research Projects.
  1. Online DVD Rental System with an SMS Gateway to send reminders to customers.
  2. Pizza ordering system via SMS.
  3. A software for PDA.
The group members selected online DVD Rental System to keep as a back up project for us.

Monday 30th of June 2008

I met the group members at 10.30am. We talked about the systems which we can create our own, such as Developing a system for a bookshop, Developing a DVD online rental system for a DVD store.
Our next meeting was scheduled on 1st of July 2008.

The members of my group had a meeting n they have discussed to select a project in next meeting.
I did not go to SLIIT today also.

Thursday 26th June 2008

Today also i didn't go to SLIIT due to my studies because exam is on 28th, 29th June and 05th July. Group members have met @ SLIIT and they have agreed to appoint me as the group leader though i didn't know them. The only person who i knew among them was Prathiba. I haven't talked with others before. And our supervisor is Ms. Nimalika Fernando.

Our group was published on the SLIIT 4th floor Notice Board. But i was absent due to the studies of Dharmacharya Exam.

My Project Life@ SLIIT

All the SLIIT students of 2nd year should do their project under the course, Information Technology Project. The members of the project groups were selected in a random manner. Also a supervisor was assigned to each group.

The Company name/details and the Student numbers of our group members will not be published in the blog, due to security reasons.
